Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Materials & Processes Engineer to provide support in composites, structural adhesives, and other organic materials used in nacelle applications.

In this role, you will lead the development, approval, and continuous improvement of materials and process specifications, serve as a primary M&P technical authority to program design teams, and resolve complex issues raised by Operations and suppliers.

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Materials & Processes Engineer to provide support in composites, structural adhesives, and other organic materials used in nacelle applications. In this role, you will lead the development, approval, and continuous improvement of materials and process specifications, serve as a primary M&P technical authority to program design teams, and resolve complex issues raised by Operations and suppliers. You will guide material catalog strategy, oversee and approve special process supplier qualifications, and influence cross-functional decisions through advanced problem-solving, mentorship, and strategic technical direction.

What You Will Do:
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity, exercising latitude in technical decision-making.
  • Apply extensive technical expertise and detailed knowledge of related disciplines; guide the successful completion of major program engineering efforts.
  • Create, maintain, and approve materials and process specifications involving composites, adhesives, prepregs, and aerospace materials.
  • Lead complex investigations of process failures and quality issues; drive real-time root cause resolution.
  • Develop and use analysis methods to establish qualifications, certification, and acceptance material property values.
  • Ensure compliance with Collins M&P specifications, test methods, regulatory requirements, and customer requirements.
  • Serve as the prime technical contact; engage senior personnel on significant technical matters.
  • Lead and approve special-process supplier qualifications, audits, and supplier capability development.
  • Lead technical teams and mentor engineers across the organization.
  • Review and approve engineering documents, specifications, reports, and material notes prepared by others.
  • Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Experience independently leading complex engineering tasks and customer-facing activities.
  • Technical writing skills (specifications and reports).
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Breadth of experience across multiple aerospace programs or products.
  • Experience with SAP and Teamcenter.
  • Background in ACE, Lean, or Six Sigma.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate highly complex concepts.

The salary range for this role is 118,300 USD - 224,900 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
