Coinbase is building the future of institutional trading. As a Senior Data Engineer on the Market Data team, you will build and operate real-time market data systems that feed trading platforms with low-latency, high-throughput data.

You will implement feed handlers, normalization pipelines, and distribution components, improve reliability through observability and on-call practice, and ship features end-to-end in collaboration with engineers and product managers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years building production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on with market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java or C++ and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks.
• Familiarity with venue connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH).

As a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team, you'll build and operate the systems that capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data across Coinbase at low latency - the feed handlers, venue connectors, and distribution layer that form the backbone of a unified trading platform.

What you'll do:

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity.
• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time market data consumed by trading systems across the platform.
• Drive reliability and performance improvements through observability, on-call participation, and incident response.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building and maintaining production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with at least one area of market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar).
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$191,250—$225,000 USD
