Job summary

Coinbase is building the future of institutional trading. As a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team, you will build and operate the systems that capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data across Coinbase with low latency.

You will work on feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity, designing high-throughput services and improving reliability through observability and on-call participation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience in production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java or C++ and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks.
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements.

As a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team, you'll build and operate the systems that capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data across Coinbase at low latency - the feed handlers, venue connectors, and distribution layer that form the backbone of a unified trading platform.

What you'll do:

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building and maintaining production low-latency systems.

• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar).
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Pay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):: $191,250 USD - $225,000 USD
