Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data, on the Institutional Markets team. You will build and operate real-time market data systems, including feed handlers, normalization, and distribution, supporting a unified trading platform with low latency.

You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver reliable market data capabilities, ensuring high throughput and robust observability, and you will write high-quality, well-tested code in a lean team

Qualifications

• 3+ years building production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data infrastructure components (feed handlers, normalization, distribution).
• Proficiency in Java or C++ and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar).
• Familiarity with market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to deliver business outputs.

As a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team, you’ll build and operate the systems that capture, normalize, and distribute real-time market data across Coinbase at low latency – the feed handlers, venue connectors, and distribution layer that form the backbone of a unified trading platform.

What you’ll do:

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity.

• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time market data consumed by trading systems across the platform.

• Drive reliability and performance improvements through observability, on-call participation, and incident response.

• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to engineering standards on a lean team.

• Partner with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities that support Coinbase’s institutional trading roadmap.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 3 years of backend engineering experience building and maintaining production low-latency systems.

• Hands-on experience with at least one area of market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).

• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C ) and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar).

• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).

• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production.

• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$191,250—$225,000 USD
