Job summary

Birdon America Inc. is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration, and validation of advanced maritime control systems from our Denver, CO location.

You will oversee the development of CAN bus-based control software, power distribution schemes, and system-level integration with C5i technologies. The role requires extensive hands-on engineering, autonomous work style, and proven leadership to guide projects, collaborate with customers and vendors, and ensure

Qualifications

  • BS degree preferred in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • 10+ years of control system design including CAN bus feedback control.
  • Marine electrical knowledge: power generation, distribution, navigation, comms, video, equipment installations, cabling, lighting.
  • Experience with MS Office, BC Dynamics, AutoCAD, Zuken, Python, PDM, PLM, MRP, SharePoint and Access.
  • Ability to work unsupervised; strong communication, teamwork, leadership, conflict management, and critical thinking.
  • 5 years program management experience.
  • Ability to act as lead technical advisor to meet scope, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Attention to detail and capability to work on complex configurations.
  • Understanding of AS9100 and Mil-STD-973 compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test electronic control systems for remote and autonomous maritime operations.
  • Create and implement technical designs including control schematics and automation logic.
  • Configure and program PLC/HMI systems and develop control software using CAN bus protocols.
  • Analyze system performance via modeling and testing; troubleshoot issues.
  • Design marine power generation and distribution systems; integrate C5i technologies.
  • Collaborate with customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and ABS regulations.
  • Manage engineering changes and maintain configuration control via PLM.
  • Support production readiness and resolve installation issues with quality/production teams.
  • Lead and mentor a small team and ensure compliance with technical standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement through best practices and documentation.
