Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line is seeking a Northern Reliability Leader in Paducah, KY to lead vessel engineering, maintenance, and reliability initiatives for our northern operations. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on problem solving to improve fleet performance.

You will mentor engineers, develop preventive maintenance programs, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with USCG and Subchapter M while traveling to other ACBL locations as needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in vessel maintenance, marine engineering, fleet maintenance, or reliability.
• Proven leadership with increasing responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of US Coast Guard rules, Subchapter M, OPA 90, hazmat.
• Extensive knowledge of propulsion, engines, and repair practices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance systems.
• Willingness to travel to ACBL locations.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day activities, technical oversight, and reliability strategy for vessel engineering and maintenance.
• Develop and execute reliability, maintenance, and asset management initiatives to improve availability and fleet performance.
• Coach and develop vessel engineers and technical personnel, including work assignments and training.
• Establish maintenance standards, preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and testing procedures to minimize downtime.
• Partner with Operations, Logistics, and other stakeholders to optimize repair schedules and minimize disruptions.
• Oversee vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure quality repairs, overhauls, and project execution.
• Monitor fleet performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency.
• Develop budgets, forecasts, and performance reports for maintenance expenditures.
• Research, investigate, and implement solutions to recurring mechanical challenges.
• Ensure vessels meet regulatory requirements, including USCG, Subchapter M, environmental, and safety standards.
