Job summary

Sofar Ocean is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and manufacture hardware powering our ocean sensing networks. You’ll own designs across concept to production and collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, and manufacturing engineers.

You’ll work through early system architecture, prototyping, testing, deployment, and manufacturing transitions, balancing performance, reliability, cost, and schedule while engaging with suppliers and customers in field trials.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and design for production.
• Experience with design from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical designs from concept through prototyping and production.
• Design hardware for harsh marine environments balancing performance and cost.
• Build, test, and debug prototypes and production hardware.
• Lead mechanical design reviews with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to scale parts.
• Participate in field testing and ocean deployments with customers.
