Job summary

Serco Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Maritime Engineering Operation in Arlington, VA, delivering marine electrical systems for Navy and commercial clients.

You will lead design from concept through construction, review drawings, and mentor junior engineers while interfacing with clients and shipyards. The role requires DoD Secret clearance eligibility, a BS in Electrical or Marine Engineering, 10+ years in marine electrical design, and strong skills in MATLAB/Simulink,

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in marine electrical design.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Knowledge of electrical drawing interpretation and industry standards (IEC, IEEE, ABS, SOLAS, NEC).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and specification of marine electrical systems from concept through construction, including power generation and distribution, switchboards, transformers, UPS, propulsion and thruster electrical systems, and automation.
  • Produce and review electrical design documentation (single-line diagrams, schematics, load analyses, cable schedules).
  • Provide project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with marine/offshore standards and class rules (IEC, IEEE, DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s).
  • Support project execution through FAT, SAT, commissioning, and sea trials.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with mechanical, naval architecture, and software teams.
  • Interface with clients, shipyards, vendors, and classification societies.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Travel ~10% for ship checks and design reviews.
  • Prioritize Health, Safety, and Environmental considerations; comply with QA and security procedures.
