Job description

We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer to lead the end‑to‑end test strategy, development, and deployment of production test solutions for Oura products. This role partners closely with cross‑functional teams and global contract manufacturers to ensure scalable, reliable, and high‑quality manufacturing test processes.

As a Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer, you will own the design, development, and optimization of manufacturing test solutions across the full product lifecycle, from early concept through mass production. You will serve as a technical lead responsible for defining test architecture, developing and maintaining test software, supporting contract manufacturer execution, leveraging data to drive insights, and leading ongoing quality and yield improvements.

This position requires strong hands‑on engineering capability, systems level thinking, and the ability to work effectively across hardware, firmware, operations, quality, and external manufacturing partners.

Hybrid location: 3 days a week in either our San Francisco or San Diego office.

What you will do
  • Design for Testability (DFT): Drive early and ongoing manufacturing involvement to ensure products are designed for robust, scalable, and cost‑effective testing.
  • Partner with Hardware, Systems, and Product teams to define test requirements aligned to product specifications and quality targets.
  • Incorporate DFMEA / PFMEA, Engineering Specifications, and test coverage analysis into product design.
Product Lifecycle & Manufacturing Support
  • Own test engineering across all phases: POC/Proto/EVT/DVT/PVT, ramp, and mass production.
  • Provide hands‑on production support for complex test issues, yield excursions, and systemic failures.
  • Lead test readiness reviews and production gate decisions with Operations and CM partners.
Test Process & Software Development
  • Architect, design, and deploy manufacturing test stations and processes.
  • Develop and maintain test software and automation in Python, C, C++, Rust; including instrument control, data acquisition and logging, test sequencing and error handling, factory dashboards and analytics hooks.
  • Drive modular, scalable, and maintainable test software frameworks suitable for high‑volume manufacturing.
Statistical & Data‑Driven Engineering
  • Apply statistical tools such as GR&R, SPC, Cp/Cpk, correlation analysis, and DOE.
  • Ensure test processes and fixtures meet capability, repeatability, and scalability requirements.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead failure analysis efforts across test stations, products, and manufacturing processes.
  • Close test gaps and correlation issues across internal labs and external factories.
  • Improve product quality, yield, and cost through systematic test optimization.
  • Act as the primary technical interface to Contract Manufacturers and test equipment vendors.
  • Drive CM test development, qualification, deployment, and sustaining.
  • Lead issue resolution related to tester hardware, software, fixtures, and factory execution.
  • Provide technical direction, training, and mentorship to CM teams and automation suppliers.
Cross‑Functional & Executive Communication
  • Collaborate closely with Hardware, Firmware, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Program teams.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise test engineering status updates to leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Influence decisions through data, technical depth, and operational insight.
We would love to have you on our team if you have
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, test engineering, or automation (assembly, inspection, test station design, or factory deployment).
  • Hands‑on experience developing manufacturing test software in Python, C, C++, Rust.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting development builds and mass production with global manufacturing partners.
  • Willingness to travel 30–50% across domestic and international factory sites.
  • Experience working with wearables, consumer electronics, sensors, or embedded systems.
  • Strong background in test station qualification and correlation (calibration, GR&R, Cp/Cpk, DOE).
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with hardware, firmware, systems, quality, and operations teams.
  • Familiarity with optical, RF, or semiconductor‑based test methodologies.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a global, fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across cultures and time zones.
