We are looking for a Hardware Signal Quality Test Engineer to join our San Francisco team. As Oura’s first HSQT engineer in San Francisco, you will help establish and grow local validation capability for Oura Ring sensors. You will contribute to hardware validation projects, execute hands‑on testing, analyze sensor data, investigate issues, and communicate actionable results. You’ll work within established global processes while helping adapt practical test methods and workflows to the San Francisco lab. You will collaborate closely with testing teams, Science, Hardware Engineering, Firmware and Embedded Software Engineering, and Product Quality. This is a hybrid position based in San Francisco, Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to sensor validation cycles for Oura’s next-generation hardware products, executing defined test activities and helping evaluate signal quality across relevant sensor domains. Contribute to test planning and adapt test methods and tools to evaluate physical and physiological signals (e.g., motion, optical, electrical, and thermal). Analyze sensor data and performance using Python and appropriate data‑analysis methods, identifying patterns and extracting actionable insights. Conduct hands‑on testing in the lab and, where appropriate, real-world field environments; identify unexpected behavior and support root‑cause investigations. Deliver clear, data‑driven reports and findings to cross‑functional stakeholders, supporting hardware, algorithms, firmware, and product‑quality decisions. Contribute to improvements in test capabilities, documentation, automation, and reporting, helping establish repeatable sensor‑validation practices at the San Francisco site.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 3+ years of relevant hands‑on experience in sensor testing, hardware validation, laboratory measurement, research, or a related engineering environment. Working experience with Python for data analysis, test tooling, or automation; willingness to continue developing these skills. Basic familiarity with analog or digital signal analysis and processing. Basic understanding of electronics, sensors, or embedded systems. Innovative mindset with a strong interest in the latest sensor technologies. Proactive and diligent, with the ability to take ownership of scoped work, seek guidance when needed, and communicate results clearly to stakeholders. Strong collaboration skills, able to work effectively across disciplines and time zones. Excellent problem‑solving abilities and an analytical approach to technical challenges. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Willingness and ability to travel to Oura sites and contract manufacturing facilities as needed.

Preferred

Knowledge of human physiology and physiological signals. Experience with electronics and implementing different test fixtures. Background in hardware testing and debugging, including software interfaces. Familiarity with regulatory testing processes for medical or other wearable devices.

Work Model

Location: Fully on-site in San Francisco, Bay Area. Collaboration with global hardware, firmware, test engineering, and manufacturing teams. Occasional travel may be required (to suppliers or Finland).
