Job summary

ZEISS seeks a seasoned Head of Engineering – Manufacturing & Sustaining in Chesterfield, MO to scale production and optimize operations. You will lead engineering across manufacturing, R&D, Supply Chain, Quality, and Product Management to ensure capacity, quality, and on-time delivery.

Strong Lean and financial acumen are essential for strategic growth. The role requires 10+ years in manufacturing engineering, a university degree in engineering or science, and an MBA preferred.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering or Natural Sciences (MBA preferred).
• Experience in senior disciplinary leadership roles; global experience preferred.
• 10+ years in product or manufacturing engineering environments.
• Proven experience scaling manufacturing operations and managing large budgets.
• Strong background in mechatronic systems, medical technology, and complex system architecture.
• Lean manufacturing, design-to-cost, and operational excellence demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Lead scale-up of manufacturing operations to support >$100M annual production.
• Own and govern site budget >$50M ensuring value-driven investments.
• Develop and execute strategy to improve throughput, yield, and productivity.
• Provide strategic leadership to manufacturing and sustaining engineering teams.
• Drive capital/debt planning aligning with growth, ramp-up, ROI objectives.
• Lead cross-functional teams for new product introductions from prototype to volume manufacturing.
• Own engineering responsibility within PLC for site products.
