Job summary

General Motors LLC is seeking a highly technical engineer for the Manufacturing Process Analysis team. You will perform physics-based simulations (FEA/CFD) across engines, motors, and batteries, collaborating with design and process teams to improve manufacturing processes and validate technology initiatives.

The role requires strong analytical skills, independent work ability, and experience in multiple simulation tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, or related engineering field.
• Master's degree or PhD preferred.
• 3+ years applying engineering simulation methods (FEA/CFD) with 5+ years preferred.
• Experience developing, interpreting, validating, or applying engineering models.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently with evolving requirements and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Define complex technical problems and objectives with manufacturing teams.
• Conduct FEA, CFD, thermal, structural, and multiphysics analyses to identify root causes.
• Investigate heat treatment, material phase transformation, thermal gradients, residual stress, and related behaviors.
• Apply simulation to casting, machining, welding, assembly, and fluid flow processes.
• Develop analysis approaches, including physics selection and boundary conditions.
• Perform literature reviews to support model development and recommendations.
• Create and improve analysis methods/workflows using Abaqus, HyperWorks, STAR-CCM+, Dante, NX, and Python.
• Automate preprocessing, solver runs, post-processing, and reporting where appropriate.
• Correlate results with test and production data; present conclusions to stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentor a small team of engineers as needed.
