The Senior Engineer, Manufacturing for Leica Biosystems is responsible for overseeing and managing engineering projects from conception to completion. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, ensuring project milestones are met, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project and process engineering, with experience in chemical formulations, manufacturing processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards, preferably in FDA-regulated environments.

This position is part of the Manufacturing Science and Engineering team that reports into site operations located in Richmond, IL and will be onsite. At Leica Biosystems, our vision is to advance cancer diagnostics and improve lives.

You will be a part of the Manufacturing Science and Engineering team and report to the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering, responsible for providing manufacturing engineering support to the Core Histology Consumables business unit. The site focuses on the manufacture of diagnostic consumables such as stains, reagents, embedding waxes, and glass slides. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Serve as project engineer for capital projects, planning, scheduling, and coordinating all aspects from start to finish.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment and integration.
  • Model the capacity of production value streams and propose effective solutions for expansion.
  • Construct and execute validation testing on equipment and process modifications.
  • Develop and apply world-class lean manufacturing skills with our Danaher Business System.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or related degree with 3+ years of related experience.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale engineering projects.
  • Capital project experience, implementing new manufacturing equipment and processes.

Periodic domestic travel, including overnight, is possible for training or vendor visits (

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • FDA-regulated environment including experience with chemical formulations, blending, filling, and packing.
  • Proficiency in modeling production line capacity and project ROI justification along with process automation and autonomation in manufacturing.
  • Understanding of applying statistical process control methods.

The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $110,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
