Job Description: Senior Manufacturing NPI Engineer

This role is based in San Jose, CA, contributing to the development of a complex robotic medical platform. The Senior Manufacturing NPI Engineer ensures the platform is highly scalable and manufacturable from the start of commercial launch.

Overview:

Manufacturing NPI Engineers at RAD work closely with Research & Development Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Program Management, Marketing, and Regulatory teams. They coordinate Process Design, Development, Optimization, Validation, and Improvement throughout the product lifecycle, making trade-off decisions to prioritize product performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Process Improvement: Study existing processes to implement improvements for new products.
  2. Equipment Design & Development: Identify, design, and develop equipment for new product development.
  3. Process & Test Specifications: Prepare and manage process and test specifications.
  4. Technical Support: Assist technicians and engineers with complex problems.
  5. Equipment Procurement & Design: Purchase and design equipment meeting J&J safety and environmental standards.
  6. Process Development: Develop manufacturing and assembly processes aligned with Design for Manufacturability, adhering to standards.
  7. Automation: Seek automation opportunities to reduce costs and improve quality.
  8. Equipment Qualification: Coordinate and execute qualification of manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  9. Team Leadership: Supervise technicians, communicate issues and opportunities to management.
  10. Troubleshooting & Technical Assistance: Resolve process control issues in manufacturing.
  11. Project Team Participation: Contribute to projects meeting quality, financial, EH&S, and performance goals.
  12. Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance process safety, quality, and efficiency.
  13. Training: Coordinate personnel training on equipment operation and maintenance.
  14. Capital Appropriation Requests: Submit requests for project funding.
  15. Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulations, policies, and safety standards.
  16. Leadership: Uphold Johnson & Johnson standards and values.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Mechatronics preferred); Master’s preferred. Relevant internship or co-op experience highly desired.
  2. Experience & Skills: Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing, knowledge of GMP, SPC, design documentation, problem-solving, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with Design of Experiments and understanding of costs and standards.

Other:

  • The travel requirement is approximately 50% domestically.
  • Base salary ranges from $106,000 to $146,566.35.
  • The primary location is San Jose, CA, with occasional support at Redwood City, CA.
