Job summary

VIAVI Solutions in Santa Rosa, CA seeks a hands-on Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Project Management) to own equipment and process issues on the production floor and drive Lean-Six Sigma improvements.

You will develop tools and procedures to speed operations, create work instructions, qualify equipment, and lead continuous improvement with data-driven methods; experience with laser marking and post-processing is a plus.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or related engineering; MS preferred.
• 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in production.
• Hands-on equipment and process troubleshooting on the floor.
• Experience creating work instructions and process docs for manufacturing operations.
• Knowledge of Lean tools, SPC, PFMEA, CAPA, and 8D.
• Strong data analysis with Excel and JMP/Minitab.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Own and improve manufacturing equipment and processes; troubleshoot issues and drive root cause closure.
• Build and maintain work instructions, fixtures and shop-floor tools; train operators on their use.
• Program and maintain processing equipment (e.g., laser marking); develop recipes and ensure traceability.
• Conduct failure analysis on nonconforming product and feed improvements back into the process.
• Lead continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, and DOE to reduce scrap and increase throughput.
• Support dicing, beveling and other optical finishing operations; qualify tooling as needed.
• Collaborate across engineering, quality and maintenance on process design for new products and investigations.
