Job summary

Pratt & Whitney's Compression Systems Manufacturing Center in Middletown, CT is seeking a Special Process Manufacturing Engineer to optimize manufacturing processes for complex jet engine parts. You will lead root-cause analyses, drive PFMEA, and coordinate with design, QA, and tooling teams to improve first-pass yield and reduce costs.

The role requires a BS in engineering with 5+ years’ experience (or MS with 3+ years), and hands-on work in a manufacturing shop environment with robotics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline with 5+ years’ experience, or Master’s with 3+ years.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints.
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Shop Environment.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting robots (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement process optimization and control methods to reduce defects and costs.
  • Interact with designers, quality, and other stakeholders to improve first-pass yield.
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions on non-conforming products.
  • Lead process optimization using MRL tools like Process Control Plans and PFMEA.
  • Document problem statements, observations, conclusions, calculations, and recommendations.
  • Support project pipeline to select, prioritize, and scope initiatives aligned with CORE.
  • Schedule and facilitate project reviews with scorecards and metrics.
  • Lead significant projects to improve manufacturing process capability and quality.

What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney, Compression Systems Manufacturing Center (CSMC) in Middletown, Connecticut is seeking a Special Process Manufacturing Engineer. CSMC makes complex rotating jet engine parts for military and commercial applications, i.e. F135 Engine, F100 Engine, Geared Turbofan, PW4000, etc.

  • Identify & implement process optimization & process control methods to eliminate quality turn backs/escapes and reduce overall product costs through the specific process.
  • Significant interaction with product designers, tool designers, quality assurance, systems designers, and other stakeholders is required to improve first pass yield through manufacturing processes
  • Perform Root cause analysis and corrective actions on non-conforming products for responsible processes using statistical analysis tools and other methods as necessary
  • Drive targeted manufacturing process optimization activities using MRL tools such as Process Control Plans and PFMEA
  • The discipline and follow-through to fully document problem statements, observations, conclusions, calculations and recommendations.
  • Support the project pipeline process to select, prioritize and scope projects to business objectives, integrated with other continuous improvement activities and CORE (Customer Oriented Results and Excellence) initiatives.
  • Schedule and facilitate periodic project reviews and ensure validation. Use effective scorecards and metrics to ensure progress.
  • Lead significant projects critical to improve manufacturing process capability & quality performance through the assigned processes
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related technical discipline and 5 or more years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing operations, quality, shop floor or similar environment OR a Master's degree and 3 or more years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, quality, shop floor or similar environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities in a constantly fluctuating work environment
  • Experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Shop Environment
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting various robots (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman, etc.)
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Six Sigma project leadership/management/coaching experience preferred
  • Experience in project management tools like MS Projects
  • Previous experience with PW software tools like Solumina, and SAP
  • Experience in using UG/NX, and Team Center software suites
  • Experience in using Minitab and other statistical software for analysis
  • Previous experience with working on Rotating Gas Turbine Parts

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
