Job summary

Johnson Controls Navy Systems seeks a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to optimize and lead machining and manufacturing operations in York, PA. The role emphasizes lean methods, capital projects, and supplier collaboration to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

The engineer will develop tooling, equipment plans, and facility changes while mentoring teams and ensuring producibility of forecasted volumes. Proficiency with SolidWorks or Creo is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; 15 years hands-on manufacturing engineering experience, with process development and continuous improvement.
• 7–10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
• Strong background in machining operations (manual and CNC).
• Proven ability to lead lean initiatives (5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen) and develop standard work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine manufacturing processes, tooling, and production controls for existing products.
• Provide hands-on support to resolve day-to-day manufacturing issues and ensure stable production.
• Lead continuous improvement focusing on scrap reduction, uptime, and process efficiency.
• Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities within operations.
• Manage capital equipment planning, justification, and procurement.
• Plan facility changes to support forecasted volumes and production needs.
• Coordinate with Materials, Quality, Engineering, and Safety teams.
• Support supplier production startups and evaluate vendor capabilities.
• Develop SWI for critical processes and implement drawing changes.
