Job summary

Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems in Fitchburg, MA is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support Lean manufacturing, tooling development, and detailed work instructions in a defense environment.

You will collaborate with engineering, program management, supply chain, and production to achieve objectives, including new product DFx and sustainment improvements. This role requires US citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering field plus 8 years of engineering experience or equivalent
• Specialties may include production, industrial, welding, tooling, testing, processing, and robotics
• US Citizenship is required
• Ability to obtain a security clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Lean manufacturing process flow to support product lines in a low volume, high mix environment.
• Develop detailed work instructions that meet product quality, customer, and contractual requirements in a defense contract environment.
• Provide direct engineering support to manufacturing operations.
• Define tooling and fixturing requirements and work with CAD team to develop, manufacture, and commission in support of manufacturing operations.
• Develop manufacturing operations including factory layout and workflow using Lean techniques.
• Evaluate, recommend, and transition products from design to manufacturing to minimize production costs using DFx and Lean process flow.
• Maintain and improve manufacturing process documentation communicating design intent to manufacturing.
• Lead Kaizen events, 6S advancement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead problem solving using 8D, 5Y, Ishikawa to perform RCCA.
• Contribute to customer relationships.
• Work with minimal direction on new assignments as needed.
