Job summary

X-energy, LLC in Rockville, MD seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to translate complex nuclear component designs into manufacturable products for our SMR program. You will partner with vendors, ensure manufacturability, and drive quality assurance through the full lifecycle of fabrication.

The role emphasizes heavy component manufacturing, design for manufacturability, process optimization, and on-site oversight during critical fabrication phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline (nuclear, aerospace, chemical) from an accredited institution.
• A master’s degree may in lieu of two years of experience.
• A Ph.D. in engineering may be in lieu of three years of experience.
• Proficiency with engineering hand calculations is required.
• Experience in CAD/PLM software and manufacturing oversight is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical/physical concepts and support development of processes to create SSCs for nuclear products with emphasis on nuclear safety.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and applicable industry codes and standards.
• Analyze SSCs to ensure they meet functional specs and design requirements.
• Perform hand calculations and use analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic analyses as required.
• Create and maintain CAD models of reactor SSCs.
• Integrate design activities across teams and suppliers to downselect features.
• Develop mechanical solutions for reactors including pressure vessels, piping, internals and high-temperature materials.
• Assess manufacturability and assembly considerations during design.
• Write design documentation and validation plans; support tool qualification.
• Lead reviews of engineering deliverables and mentor junior team members.
