Job Description

The SR Composites Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations for composite aerospace products and assemblies. This includes ensuring the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel to produce quality products that meet customer requirements at minimum costs.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing methods, operation sequences, and processes for parts fabrication.
  2. Estimate manufacturing costs and time standards; recommend tooling and process requirements.
  3. Coordinate with internal and external customers for process release.
  4. Work with production leaders to develop and evaluate personnel for efficient operations.
  5. Provide technical expertise in calculations, design, analysis, reporting, and presentations.
  6. Take responsibility for program tasks from a technical design perspective.
  7. Develop composite molding and fabrication process flows; generate CAD parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  8. Design and review production tooling and fixtures.
  9. Create production plans in ERP systems, including Item Masters, BOMs, and Routers.
  10. Maintain communication with factory management and engineering to align on technical tasks.
  11. Interface with engineering leadership for risk management.
  12. Guide lower-level engineers in creating work instructions, travelers, and inspection methods.
  13. Research and select equipment, vendors, and consultants as needed.
  14. Control production processes using SPC and KPI data analysis.
  15. Address root causes and implement corrective actions for process issues in compliance with AS9100 and NADCAP standards.

Essential Skills

  1. 10+ years manufacturing engineering experience, with at least 7 years in composite layup, molding, machining, and inspection.
  2. Experience with compression molding, RTM, autoclave, and out-of-autoclave processing techniques.
  3. Familiarity with AS9100 quality management system.
  4. Proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018).
  5. Self-motivated with excellent time management and strategic planning skills.
  6. Experience supporting marketing, customer interface, and proposals, including technical writing and cost estimation.
  7. Ability to manage a team and work independently.
  8. Data-driven decision making skills and logical analysis.
  9. Adherence to corporate Quality Management System.
  10. Knowledge of machine shop practices and CNC programming.
  11. Mechanical assembly and disassembly skills.
  12. Experience with ASTM standards for composite testing.
  13. Proficiency with CMM inspection methods.
  14. Experience with data acquisition systems for temperature, position, and pressure.
  15. Organized, detail-oriented, and accurate.
  16. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple duties in a dynamic environment.

Work Environment

Work involves daily interaction with factory and engineering management, maintaining production processes, and adhering to quality standards. The role requires independence and flexibility to adapt to changing customer demands.

Pay and Benefits

Salary ranges from $120,000 to $145,000 annually, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, and an annual bonus.
