Location: The position will be on-site full-time in Newburyport, MA. The position holder will need to be within commuting distance (within 45 min).

Senior Manufacturing Engineer Summary

Applies advanced knowledge of continuous improvement engineering theory and methods to design, integrate, and improve companywide manufacturing systems or related processes and new process development. Work with designers to refine product designs to increase manufacturability and decrease costs.

Senior Manufacturing Engineer Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Apply lean manufacturing techniques to reduce manufacturing waste.
  • Conduct time studies and adjust production standards as required.
  • Design and oversee the fabrication of manufacturing tooling and fixtures to support continuous improvement projects.
  • Coordinate fabrication of tools and fixtures to be used in production.
  • Monitor scrap rates and initiate projects to reduce scrap costs.
  • Work with Team Leaders and management to review shop order variances and improve cost performance.
  • Train work cell team members in continuous improvement practices.
  • Support manufacturing engineers and green belts.
  • Prepare work instructions for manufacturing processes.
  • Train production team members in visual production tools.
  • Utilize data for decision making.
  • Report on problem-solving and corrective actions.
  • Assist in designing, installing, and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment.
  • Apply six sigma tools for root cause analysis and process improvements.
  • Prepare estimates and proposals for improvement projects.
  • Manage continuous improvement projects and report results.
  • Support new product transfer into production.
  • Interact with customers, vendors, and team members to meet project requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or relevant discipline and 10+ years of continuous improvement experience in manufacturing, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience managing green belts and technical engineers in continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience with lean manufacturing, GD&T, CAD, Minitab, MS Project.
  • Experience applying statistical analysis to manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with assembly operations, tooling evaluation, vendor qualification, facilities engineering, and cost savings.
  • Basic machine shop experience preferred.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
