Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Foley, Alabama is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to optimize assembly operations and implement advanced manufacturing processes. You will design and arrange tooling, upgrade processes with robotics, and support continuous improvement initiatives across programs and sites.

You will collaborate with stress, design, electrical, materials, and process engineering teams to enhance producibility and comply with EH&S and quality standards, while driving efficiency and cost

Qualifications

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of related experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and models.
  • Experience with continuous improvement tools and CAD systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with stress, design, electrical, materials and process engineers to improve producibility.
  • Apply robotics and automation to upgrade manufacturing processes.
  • Lead CI events across business processes and leadership levels.
  • Assist in tooling and machine layout design with production teams.
  • Identify design changes to improve manufacturing and producibility.
  • Participate in tool design reviews to reduce build times and costs.
  • Use data analytics to monitor FPY and OEE targets.
  • Ensure EH&S and Quality requirements are met in manufacturing sequences.
  • Support PFMEA and Control Plans with Quality teams.
  • Engage in digital manufacturing initiatives with Digital SME.

We are looking for Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support assembly operations in a facility that has been transitioning to state‑of‑the‑art equipment and advanced manufacturing processes. You will be working cross functionally with other engineering disciplines optimizing the performance of a wide range of tasks to facilitate assembly operations, production and business unit objectives. You will also be designing and arranging machines, tooling, and sequence of operations and making sure that mandatory modifications are incorporated to ensure configuration compliance and to improve efficiency. In addition, you will have an opportunity to support advanced manufacturing automation projects and engage with the Program Office across other facilities for Continuous Improvement initiatives.

The position is onsite at our Foley, AL facility. Relocation assistance is available.

What You Will Do:
  • Work cross functionally with stress, design, electrical, materials and process engineers to improve product design to achieve maximum producibility
  • Implement process technology upgrades by applying various engineering applications such as robotics and automation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) events across all business processes and with all levels of leadership
  • Support design and arrangement of tooling and machines of the manufacturing process (layout) collaborating with production team
  • Identify opportunities on drawings and specs to influence changes to engineering designs that improve product manufacturing and producibility.
  • Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during fabrication.
  • Use advanced data analytics to analyze First Pass Yield (FPY) productivity and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) targets and improvement.
  • Ensures sequence on manufacturing process and product builds complies with EH&S and Quality requirements.
  • Drive problem solving initiatives & challenge status quo (Corrective Action Investigations, OEE, FPY and Customer escapes)
  • Work cross functionally with Quality participating and contributing to PFMEA and Control Plans
  • Participate in digital manufacturing initiatives with support from Digital Subject Matter Experts (SME)
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting specifications, and engineering drawings and models.
  • Experience adapting equipment or tooling design to factory and production conditions.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools
  • Experience with CAD design software
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience in robotics and automation
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Red X ACE or CORE
  • Experience with CATIA, other CAD systems
  • Experience with 3d printing
  • Experience in Manufacturing Shop Environment
  • Understanding of Project Management methods

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
