Job description

The planet urgently needs safe, reliable, zero-carbon energy without waste. Nuclear fusion can address the scale of this problem, but for decades, existing fusion approaches have not proven a net positive energy gain. Zap Energy has rethought the fundamental technology of fusion. As the only company using sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch, we present potentially the fastest path to commercially available fusion energy.

Zap Energy is looking for a self-motivated Senior Manufacturing Engineer to drive the innovation and efficiency of our production processes, contributing to the advancement of our cutting-edge fusion energy technology. The ideal candidate will develop manufacturing solutions for new products in parallel with their design, translating engineering designs and requirements into manufacturing procedures.

This is an onsite role based in Everett, WA.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and design manufacturing processes.
  • Intake new projects, translating high-level concepts into detailed manufacturing plans.
  • Translate engineering drawings into work instructions and manufacturing procedures.
  • Provide fabrication expertise, offering multiple manufacturing options based on past experiences.
  • Manage unplanned issues in production launch.
  • Leverage previous experience in hardware manufacturing (i.e., castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, and Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software).
  • Integrate large assemblies (Product BOM’s in excess of 2000 parts)
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization.
  • Manage cross-functional relationships, ensuring smooth implementation of new processes and changes.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field.
  • Design, mechanical, and assembly experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals.
  • Experience translating engineering drawings into manufacturing procedures.
  • Proven track record of managing large assemblies and complex projects.
  • Excellent communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

Preferred:

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Experience with high voltage systems and electronics.

Compensation range: $120,000-160,000

Benefits of joining Zap Energy - While doing meaningful work is rewarding in itself, we also offer the following programs and benefits for all employees:

  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Flexible vacation and paid company holidays

Zap Energy is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws and regulations.

Zap Energy is building a low-cost, compact and scalable fusion energy platform that confines and compresses plasma without the need for expensive and complex magnetic coils. Zap’s sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch technology offers the shortest potential path to commercially viable fusion and requires orders of magnitude less capital than traditional approaches. Zap Energy has over 150 employees in two facilities near Seattle, and is backed by leading financial and strategic investors.
