Job description

An innovative technology company is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join its growing engineering and manufacturing team. This is an onsite position, based in Boston, MA.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to play a key role in the development and production release of complex electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical components and assemblies. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced product development environment and will have a strong track record of developing scalable manufacturing processes, supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), and working closely with contract manufacturing partners.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing manufacturing documentation, product structures, assembly and test procedures, and supporting the successful transfer of new technologies into production. The role will also take ownership of the manufacturing release process and associated documentation systems used to communicate requirements to suppliers and contract manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain product structures, including multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Create, document, and release manufacturing assembly procedures, work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Develop and maintain documentation packages for manufacturing partners, ensuring suppliers and contract manufacturers always have access to the latest approved documentation.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from prototype development through to production ramp-up.
  • Contribute to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
  • Lead and support technology transfer activities to contract manufacturing (CM) partners.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, supply chain teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and smooth product release.
  • Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and manufacturing documentation release processes.
  • Coordinate production builds at external manufacturing sites.
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation complies with quality system requirements, configuration management processes, and document control standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting electro-mechanical and/or opto-mechanical products.
  • Experience working within an OEM environment, ideally supporting either a fully outsourced/turnkey manufacturing model or an outsourced manufacturing model with in-house final assembly and test.
  • Strong experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and transitioning products from development into production.
  • Experience transferring products and manufacturing processes to contract manufacturing partners.
  • Proven experience creating and maintaining structured Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Experience writing detailed assembly procedures, work instructions, and manufacturing test procedures.
  • Familiarity with PLM, ERP, and document management systems.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management and document control processes.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and manufacturing process validation.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail, particularly when managing technical documentation, revision control, and configuration.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in a dynamic and fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with optical alignment, opto-mechanical assemblies, or precision instrumentation.
  • Experience supporting low-volume, high-complexity manufacturing environments.
  • Experience managing contract manufacturing partners in domestic and/or international manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with advanced technology products and complex engineering systems.
Compensation
