Job summary

TotalEnergies is seeking a senior operations leader to design, build out, and run a new remote-operations control center supporting North American power activities. You will manage real-time remote operations for diverse assets, enforce regulatory standards, and drive KPIs across the team.

The role emphasizes leadership, cybersecurity posture, and collaboration with engineering, asset management and trading teams to optimize performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in power generation ops/utilities, with 3+ years in leadership.
• Deep knowledge of ERCOT requirements, protocols, and market structures.
• Experience monitoring utility-scale wind/solar assets.
• Strong understanding of NERC/FERC reliability standards and CIP compliance.
• Experience leading control room startups and large-scale fleet integrations.

Responsibilities

• Direct 24/7 center operations for utility-scale assets (wind, solar, BESS, gas).
• Oversee dispatch, ancillary services, curtailments, and real-time directives.
• Coordinate with trading desks to optimize dispatch while maintaining safety separation.

Key Responsibilities:

Operating Center Design & Buildout

• Define the physical layout, hardware requirements, and cybersecurity posture for the mission-critical control room.
• Evaluate, procure, and integrate advanced SCADA, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Automated Generation Control (AGC) platforms.
• Manage third-party software developers, hardware integrators, and cybersecurity consultants to deliver the facility on time and within budget.
• Establish operational controls to meet all NERC CIP, FERC, and regional transmission organization (RTO/ISO) audit readiness requirements.
• Draft comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for emergency response, curtailment management, weather anomalies, and forced outages.

Team Recruitment, Training & Readiness

• Build a 24/7/365 shift-rotation organization from the ground up, hiring control room supervisors, operators, and analysts.
• Design rigorous onboarding curriculums, readiness assessments, and qualification pathways covering generation mechanics and grid topology.
• Ensure all operators successfully achieve and maintain necessary regional credentials (e.g., ERCOT, PJM) and NERC certifications.
• Create simulation scenarios and tabletop exercises to test team response to grid emergencies and cybersecurity incidents.
• Establish a strict culture of operational discipline, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the control room.

Real-Time Operations

• Direct day-to-day operations of the 24/7 center monitoring utility-scale wind, solar, BESS, and gas generation assets.
• Oversee the accurate execution of dispatch instructions, ancillary service deployments, curtailments, and real-time operational directives.
• Maintain continuous fleet situational awareness, managing workflows for both directly controlled and remotely coordinated assets.
• Partner closely with trading and scheduling desks to execute optimal dispatch strategies while preserving strict separation of functions.
• Act as the ultimate escalation point and direct operational decision-making during high-pressure events, grid disturbances, and asset failures.
• Coordinate emergency communications and escalation procedures with internal leadership, off-takers, and market operators.
• Partner with Field Operations teams to coordinate switching activities, maintenance execution, and lock-out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures.
• Collaborate with operations and technical teams to execute maintenance strategies and address fleet performance issues.
• Establish and report on KPIs, including response times, downtime, and curtailment losses, to support warranty claims and post-event analysis.
• Leverage data analytics to streamline automated alarming, identify recurring vulnerabilities, and minimize operator alarm fatigue.
• Serve as a key operational partner across Operations, Asset Management, Trading, Engineering, and executive leadership teams

The position will be responsible for delivering the design, build-out, startup and ongoing management of a new remote-operations control center to support TotalEnergies North American power business. The role is accountable for managing real-time remote operations which enforcing a culture of accountability across all the team and achieving the prescribed technical and financial KPIs while ensuring compliance to regulatory and HSE standards.

Education/Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED combined with extensive hands-on military or power plant leadership experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
• 7+ years in power generation operations, utilities, or control center environments, including 3+ years in a direct supervisory or leadership role.
• Deep technical knowledge of ERCOT operating requirements, protocols, and market structures.
• Direct experience monitoring or operating utility-scale wind and solar assets.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage substation maintenance, SCADA infrastructure and NERC/FERC reliability standards
• Strong working knowledge of NERC reliability standards and NERC CIP compliance requirements.
• Hands-on experience participating in control room startups, SCADA migrations, or large-scale operational fleet integrations.
• Extreme level of ethics and personal responsibility while working autonomously
• Assertive team player with diverse interests and love for working withing dynamic environments
• Attention to details to solve time-sensitive issues with precision and urgency
• Flexible mindset welcoming changes associated with growing a new high-impact, high-visibility business

Preferred Requirements

• Familiarity or direct experience with PJM and AESO market operations and regional protocols.
• Direct operational experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and gas generation assets.
• Active NERC Certifications or regional market operator credentials (e.g., ERCOT, PJM certifications).
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience managing third-party vendors, cybersecurity consultants, and software developers during an infrastructure buildout.
