Job summary

Autism Speaks is seeking a Senior Manager of Communications and Public Relations to join a remote team. You will lead media relations, craft messaging, and coordinate high-profile campaigns to elevate the organization’s voice.

The role emphasizes rapid response, storytelling, and strong journalist relationships. The ideal candidate is an experienced writer with a track record in media outreach and a passion for mission-driven communications.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
6-8 years of experience in public relations, communications, media relations, journalism, or related role.
Track record of pitching and securing media coverage.
Experience drafting and editing media materials (press releases, talking points, briefs, FAQs).
Experience with media monitoring, distribution, or reporting platforms.
Experience in nonprofit/advocacy/healthcare/mission-driven communications environments (preferred).
Occasional travel and time-sensitive evening/weekend assignments.
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Support proactive media strategies aligned with organizational priorities and campaigns.
Pitch, secure, coordinate, and staff national, regional, local, and trade media opportunities.
Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and freelancers.
Draft and edit press releases, media advisories, talking points, and messaging documents.
Prepare executives for media interviews and provide spokesperson coaching as needed.
Monitor news cycles and identify timely opportunities for engagement.
