Job summary

Onto Innovation in Milpitas, CA is seeking a Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering to lead development of advanced hardware and tooling for next-generation metrology instruments. You will guide concept through release, collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams and managing small teams as needed.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience in controls, mechanical, or mechatronic engineering.
• Masters degree or higher in science or engineering preferred.
• Willingness to travel internationally to customer sites up to 20% of time.
• Experience with motion control systems and design of precision mechanical systems.
• Strong background in vibration analysis and system dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Define control architecture: components (motors, drives, controllers), and interfaces for motion systems.
• Design optical mounts, precision adjustment mechanisms, and positioning systems.
• Architect mechatronic systems—select motors, sensors, and drive components to meet requirements.
• Proficient in motion control, servo tuning, stage control, and automation mapping.
• Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams across projects.
• Prepare clear reports and documentation for product release.
