Onto Innovation in Milpitas, CA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to sustain released Metrology products, introduce new designs, and upgrade mechanical and opto‑mechanical subsystems across Manufacturing and Service environments.

You will design hardware components, integrate optical mounts, test fixtures, and ensure compliance with CE and UL standards, while collaborating with multiple engineering teams.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks.
• FEA capability.
• Experience designing semiconductor equipment preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Plans, designs and develops hardware components and systems for existing and new products.
• Designs mechanical interfaces including mounts, enclosures, frames, and motion control devices.
• Designs mechanical test fixturing for reliability testing and manufacturing support.
• Supports certification to CE and UL standards.
• Oversees build/test of new designs and prototypes.
• Generates procedures and documentation for assembly and manufacturing.
• Coordinates with cross-functional teams to integrate designs into broader systems.
• Collaborates with Supply Chain to ensure supplier conformance.

Onto Innovation strives to optimize customers’ critical path of progress by making them smarter, faster and more efficient.**Job Summary & Responsibilities**The mission of the Sr. **Mechanical Engineer** is to support sustaining of released Metrology products, introduction of new designs and creation of upgrades impacting both Manufacturing and Service environments, focusing on mechanical and opto-mechanical subsystems. Scope of work includes but is not limited to: component selection, BOM/revision maintenance, design specification determination, process and procedure evolution, isolation of system performance gaps within an operations environment and fixture design supporting qualification of critical parts’ performance.
