Job description

Our client is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference, underpinned by an expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

As they scale their portfolio of capital projects, they're looking for a Senior Manager – Mechanical Engineering to become the mechanical discipline lead and senior technical authority across the business, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering.

This is a genuine step up for someone ready to own mechanical strategy end to end: you'll set the standards, sign off the designs, and be the final word on cooling and mechanical systems integrity across every project in the portfolio, rather than sitting several layers down from that decision. This is a rare chance to lead rather than follow in a hyperscale AI infrastructure business at a genuinely exciting stage of its growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as mechanical engineering discipline lead and technical authority for mechanical systems and cooling equipment, and their integration across all projects
  • Manage a team of senior, intermediate and junior mechanical engineers, directly or functionally
  • Establish and maintain mechanical engineering standards, design criteria and technical specifications, and provide final review and approval of designs and deliverables
  • Oversee design and validation of mechanical systems for custom-manufactured equipment, including central cooling plants, fire protection, site water distribution and re-fuelling facilities
  • Coordinate the mechanical discipline with civil, architectural, structural, electrical and piping teams, and act as the primary mechanical interface with manufacturing, QA/QC, project management and external stakeholders, including customers
  • Identify technical risks in mechanical systems and provide mitigation strategies and executive-level recommendations to senior leadership

Skills/Must have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • P.Eng. registration in Texas (Oklahoma registration an asset)
  • 10+ years' progressive experience in mechanical water conveyance and cooling systems within industrial, mission-critical and hyperscale data center environments
  • Proven track record as mechanical discipline lead or senior technical authority on complex projects
  • In-depth knowledge of ASHRAE, IMC, IBC, NFPA and other applicable mechanical codes and standards
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills; data center or mission-critical facilities experience highly desirable
  • Up to 45% annual bonus
  • Restricted stock (equity) vesting over three years and growing in value as the company scales
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental and vision premiums for employees, 75% for dependents
