Job summary

GEICO is seeking a Senior Manager of multiple Staff Counsel office activities related to defending lawsuits against GEICO insureds in liability cases and representing GEICO in UM/UIM, PIP, and subrogation matters. The role leads attorneys, coordinates with Claims, and drives strategic litigation management.

Required are a license to practice law in applicable jurisdictions and a minimum of ten years of litigation experience, including insurance defense, plus people management experience.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions.
• Minimum of ten years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury.
• People management experience required (preferably management of attorneys).

Responsibilities

• Manages subordinates in all activities relating to the defense of lawsuits against GEICO insureds in liability cases and in UM/UIM, PIP and Subrogation suits.
• Interviews and/or approves job applicants for employment; conducts performance appraisals; initiates salary adjustments and other personnel changes; counsels associates and takes disciplinary action or terminates employment as appropriate.
• Represents GEICO insureds in liability cases, UM/UIM, and PIP suits filed in courts of limited and unlimited jurisdiction.
• Researches laws and prepares briefs, opinions, and memoranda; renders opinions on liability, damages, and value; prepares pleadings and discovery; handles depositions and examinations under oath.
• Trains and supervises less experienced attorneys; monitors bar requirements including CLE; provides feedback on file handling and expense management.
• Reviews office reports and implements changes to improve statistics and client satisfaction.
• Adheres to GEICO Code of Conduct and company policies.
• Meets attendance standards at the business location.
