The Senior Manager of Grants and Partnerships is a strategic leader responsible for advancing the mission of Children’s Home Society of North Carolina (CHS) through the development and execution of sustainable funding strategies and collaborative partnerships. This role leads efforts to identify, secure, and steward funding opportunities from a diverse portfolio of sources, including government agencies, foundations, and corporate partners. The Senior Manager oversees the full grants lifecycle, including opportunity research, prospect cultivation, proposal development, grant writing, budget coordination, submission management, compliance monitoring, and reporting. Working collaboratively across the organization and with external stakeholders, this position builds and strengthens strategic partnerships that support organizational priorities necessary to sustain and grow CHS programs, services, and operations.

Primary Job Functions
Grants Strategy and Management
  • Lead the strategic approach to securing financial support from new and existing institutional foundations, family foundations, corporations, public and governmental grantors, and other grant resources.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue funding opportunities that align with CHS’s mission, strategic priorities, program needs, and financial sustainability goals.
  • Serve as CHS’s lead grant writer and manage the grant-writing process, including forming grant-writing teams, setting deadlines, assigning tasks, overseeing progress, conducting final review, and ensuring timely submission.
  • Develop compelling, compliant proposals and budgets tailored to funder requirements and expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to grant requirements by tracking progress, meeting deadlines, maintaining documentation, and producing accurate reports.
  • Maintain an annual grant cycle calendar to support timely planning and high-quality submissions for state, federal, foundation, and other grant opportunities.
  • Maintain comprehensive grantor data files, including relationship contacts, funding requests, secured funding, reporting requirements, and related information.
  • Develop meaningful reports and analyze data to identify activity, trends, successes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Track and report on key outcomes, including dollars awarded, proposals submitted, and new foundations cultivated.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, including Finance and program leadership, to align grant activities with organizational goals, budget needs, and implementation capacity.
Partnership Development and Advocacy
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with institutional foundations, government grantors, family and corporate foundations, public agencies, industry associations, community partners, and other external organizations.
  • Partner with the Chief Philanthropy Officer to develop an annual foundation relations strategy and measurable goals.
  • Support the Philanthropy team’s efforts to cultivate and grow relationships with family and corporate foundations.
  • Support the Business Development team’s efforts to cultivate and grow relationships with government contractors and other strategic partners.
  • Identify strategies that improve CHS name recognition, create value for partners, and maintain foundation and grantor satisfaction.
  • Collaborate internally to identify and prioritize advocacy messages, prepare supporting materials, and communicate messaging across departments to support cross-organizational alignment.
  • Identify conferences and external engagement opportunities aligned with CHS’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Recruit and support CHS representatives to attend, speak, present, and prepare effective presentations, booth messaging, and related materials.
  • Consolidate and share insights gathered through external engagement to inform organizational strategy and relationship development.
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively across departments to support the execution of business strategies, integration of new opportunities, and achievement of organizational goals.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and performance-oriented culture that supports employee engagement and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Embrace the role of advocate, fundraiser, and community voice for CHS.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of CHS’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities in the performance of all job duties.
  • Provide leadership to the organization and personify CHS’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, and innovation.
  • Display sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training, education, and quality improvement activities.
  • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and trends.
  • Comply with CHS’s code of conduct, policies, procedures, and other obligations.
  • Perform other duties related to department goals and projects as needed.
Qualifications
Education, Licenses & Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public policy, social sciences, or a relevant field required. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in grant-funded revenue generation, program development, and/or partnership management, with a demonstrated track record of achieving measurable results.
Competencies
Skills and Proficiency in:
  • Strong organizational skills, resources development and budget development experience a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of human service systems for youth, young adults, and families and an ability to bring together and collaborate with diverse community partners
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven effective organizational and time management skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Applications as well as electronic data systems, time sheets, expense reports, and use of virtual platforms for meetings)
Ability to:
  • Work independently from a home office and maintain adherence to deadlines.
  • Display oral and written communication skills, with effective organizational and time management skills
  • Be physically able to use standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, photocopiers, and fax machines.
  • Be physically able to lift/move up to twenty-five (25) pounds (computer equipment)
  • Travel required, as needed.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed.
  • Maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and have access to an operating vehicle to attend to CHS business
