Job summary

Zip is seeking a Senior Manager, Global Payroll to oversee US, international, and EOR payrolls. You will lead the team, approve payroll submissions, and handle complex pay, tax, and compliance issues.

You will drive payroll improvements, ensure accuracy, and collaborate with Legal, Accounting, Equity, and People Operations to align pay policies and data. Strong leadership and payroll expertise are required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of payroll experience, including 3+ years of multi-country payroll with external providers.
• Hands-on experience with US multi-state payroll and Canadian payroll.
• Experience with at least one payroll provider implementation or migration.

Responsibilities

• Review gross-to-net results and reconciliations for each run; process off-cycle payments.
• Build the payroll roadmap for system, provider and process improvements.
• Train and develop the payroll team; act as escalation point for complex pay issues.
• Manage US multi-state payroll tax registrations, notices and filings.
• Coordinate with EOR and in-country providers on international payroll questions.
• Prepare payroll journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations for monthly close.

YOUR ROLE

We're looking for a Senior Manager, Global Payroll to oversee our US, international and EOR payrolls. You'll lead the team, approve payroll before each submission and handle the most complex pay, tax and compliance issues.

YOU WILL

• Review gross-to-net results and pre and post payroll reconciliations for each run, and process off-cycle payments and final pay.
• Build the payroll roadmap for system, provider and process improvements, and bring recommendations to Accounting leadership.
• Train and develop the payroll team, review their work and act as the escalation point for complex pay issues.
• Manage US multi-state payroll tax registrations, agency notices and amendments, and quarter-end and year-end filings.
• Manage Canadian payroll across provinces, including statutory deductions and remittances, ROEs and T4 reporting.
• Coordinate with EOR and in-country providers on international payroll and local compliance questions.
• Partner with Equity on ISO exercise reporting and NSO payroll withholding and reporting, including international equity awards.
• Work with People Operations, Legal, Accounting and Equity on pay policies and the employee data and approvals that feed payroll.
• Prepare payroll journal entries, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis for the monthly close.
• Reconcile benefit and 401(k) deductions and remittances, and support year-end 401(k) work and payroll audits.
• Document payroll procedures, maintain controls and automate manual steps.
• Run provider implementations and migrations, and resolve service and data issues.
• Oversee payroll setup for new countries or entities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years of payroll experience, including 3+ years of multi-country payroll with external providers.
• Hands-on experience with US multi-state and multi-province Canadian payroll.
• Strong knowledge of US payroll tax, including quarter-end and year-end filings.
• Knowledge of Canadian payroll requirements and provincial differences, and when to bring in local specialists.
• Experience with at least one payroll provider implementation or migration.
• Payroll accounting experience, including journal entries, reconciliations, audit support and equity withholding.
• Experience managing payroll staff and handling confidential pay matters under tight deadlines.
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills, and experience working with People Operations, Accounting, Equity and providers.

NICE TO HAVES

• You've worked with EOR arrangements and HRIS-to-payroll integrations.
• You've used Paylocity and NetSuite; familiarity with BambooHR, Carta or Pebl is helpful.
• You hold a CPP, PCP or CPM certification.

The salary range for this role is $142,000 - $210,000. The salary for this position is determined based on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant experience, education, or particular skills and expertise.
