Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Data Protection and Privacy leader to execute strategy, governance, and risk management across the enterprise. You will drive DLP, encryption, and tokenization initiatives, collaborate with Legal and Compliance, and report on program maturity to executives.

This role emphasizes cross-functional influence, policy development, and scalable security controls. The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of leadership in data protection/privacy, strong regulatory knowledge

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; 7+ years leading Data Protection/Privacy programs
• 10+ years preferred in cybersecurity/privacy leadership roles
• Experience implementing enterprise Data Protection controls across data lifecycle
• Hands-on and leadership experience with security technologies and policy enforcement
• Experience with regulatory regimes (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and privacy incident response

Responsibilities

• Execute the enterprise Data Protection strategy, roadmap, and governance model
• Lead programs protecting sensitive information across the full data lifecycle
• Establish policies, standards, and operating procedures for secure data handling and regulatory compliance
• Drive adoption of data protection technologies, controls, and best practices
• Provide strategic direction for Data Protection and Privacy Operations
• Lead enterprise initiatives involving data classification, data discovery, DLP, Insider Risk Management, encryption, and tokenization
• Ensure protection of sensitive data across endpoints, cloud platforms, SaaS applications, collaboration platforms, email systems, and enterprise repositories
• Develop risk-based controls to prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or exfiltration of sensitive data
• Define and oversee data protection metrics, reporting, and governance processes
• Lead operational execution of the enterprise privacy incident response playbook
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams regarding GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other regulations
• Provide subject matter expertise on PII, data minimization, and data sharing
• Partner with Insider Risk and Security Operations teams on monitoring, detection, investigation, and response capabilities
• Lead data protection assessments, including impact assessments, regulatory compliance assessments, data flow analysis, and security control evaluations
• Identify data protection risks and develop scalable remediation strategies
• Maintain risk registers, governance reporting, and remediation tracking
• Provide executive-level reporting on data protection program maturity and KPIs
• Support large-scale cybersecurity and data protection transformation initiatives
• Evaluate emerging technologies, automation opportunities, and AI-enabled capabilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or 4+ additional years of equivalent experience
• 7+ years' experience leading Data Protection and/or Data Privacy programs
• 2+ years' experience leading privacy event response and notification activities
• Deep experience implementing and managing enterprise Data Protection solutions and controls
• Experience with DLP platforms
• Direct hands-on and leadership experience within Cyber Security organizations designing, implementing, administering, and supporting related technologies or services
• Subject Matter Expertise in Data Protection technologies
• 3+ years of Cyber Security/Data Protection technologies/programs experience
• Experience supporting cloud-first security and data protection programs
• Experience with Microsoft Purview, Insider Risk Management, Defender Suite, or similar technologies
• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or CRISC
• Master's degree or related combination of work, training, and educational experience (6 years+)
• Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Assurance, MIS, IT Communication Systems/Networking, or STEM discipline focus or equivalent
• Expert and hands-on working knowledge of three or more listed data privacy, data protection, and regulatory concepts
