Definition

The Newport Beach Municipal Operations Department seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the team as a Senior Management Analyst assigned to Trash & Recycle. This position will serve as the technical expert for the Trash & Recycle Division, providing direct supervision and leadership to the team. The position will oversee the administration of the Trash & Recycle Division work plan and methods; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor the work of contractors performing refuse collection work for the City; and implement policies and procedures to maintain compliance with California State and Orange County waste disposal mandates. The position will also inspect work sites, collection routes, and collections before, during and after completion to assure work is completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner.

Selection Components

Retirement

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% (or half the normal cost, whichever is higher) of pay towards the retirement benefit.

Additional Physical Requirements And Environmental Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office environment and may require occasional travel to off-site facilities, which could involve exposure to outdoor temperatures and inclement weather; equipment noise, equipment vibrations, vehicle and/or chemical fumes, chemicals such as cleaning solvents and grease, machinery and their moving parts, dust and water/moisture.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

Required

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible professional level administrative experience. Public sector experience is highly desirable.

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, public administration, economics, or a related field.

License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
