Job summary

SPCA of Wake County is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors capable of gifts of $5,000 or more. You will manage a portfolio of 125–175 major-gift prospects, developing personalized strategies to deepen relationships and inspire transformational philanthropy.

The role emphasizes donor engagement, retention, and advancing donors through the pipeline, collaborating across departments to connect donors with the SPCA of Wake County’s mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• Three or more years of nonprofit fundraising, including direct solicitation of gifts of $5,000 or more.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and project-management abilities.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and donor strategies.
• Willingness to travel throughout the service area for donor visits and events.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of 125–175 major-gift prospects and donors.
• Develop and execute individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
• Enter timely and accurate notes into the donor database after each interaction.
• Meet annual fundraising and donor-engagement goals.
• Collaborate with Development staff on data, gift processing, and stewardship initiatives.
