Job summary

Simpson Strong-Tie Company Inc. in West Chicago is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician to perform mechanical, electrical, and systems troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.

You will train team members, schedule work, ensure 5S and safety standards, and collaborate with production to minimize downtime. Requires 2+ years in maintenance, HS diploma, and strong diagnostic skills; travel up to 5%.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in a similar role with hands-on machine maintenance experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; industrial maintenance technician or related program preferred.
  • Basic to mid-level mechanical and electrical skills, including HVAC and mechanical repair.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities; ability to analyze information and make informed decisions.
  • Adherence to safety regulations and active participation in job training opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team; experience supervising or leading a maintenance team is a plus.
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and injection molding systems preferred.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety requirements for industrial maintenance operations.
  • Excellent planning, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Observe machines and devices in operation to identify root causes and preventive measures.
  • Dismantle devices, remove defective parts, and examine components for imperfections.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments; repair or replace defective parts, then test performance.
  • Conduct electrical circuit and mechanical system tests.
  • Set up and operate multiple machining operations, repair parts, perform carpentry, plumbing, and welding tasks.
  • Support and backup other team members as directed.
  • Provide training and collaboration on maintenance processes to new and existing team members.
  • Respond proactively to maintenance calls and partner with production to remove barriers and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Accurately record job and work order information using iPad and PC.
  • Ensure compliance with 5S and housekeeping standards; contribute to continuous improvement activities and cost‑saving projects.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and support a safety‑first culture.

Senior Maintenance Technician

As a Senior Maintenance Technician, you’ll perform mechanical, electrical, and systems troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s manuals, diagrams, and machine-specific training. This expert-level position focuses on industrial manufacturing maintenance and includes training team members and scheduling work.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, see, talk, and hear; occasionally sit.
  • Must lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with proper equipment.
  • Work around moving mechanical parts; noise level is loud.
  • Potential exposure to dust, heat, cold, wet or humid conditions.
Travel

Requires domestic and international travel up to 5% of the time.

Location and Status

Full‑time, on‑exempt position located in West Chicago.

Compensation

$30.77–$49.23 per hour.
