Job description

The Senior Maintenance Technician, under general supervision, prioritizes, schedules, and assigns work requests and directs general maintenance staff, in addition to inspecting jobs to ensure completion and conformance to standards.
Organizes and oversees an assigned crew of maintenance employees performing routine tasks.

Inspects buildings, grounds and other structures to ensure the overall general appearance, cleanliness, and the safe and proper operation of functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations.

Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).

Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.

Performs minor painting and carpentry work as assigned.

Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and spaces (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, desks, file cabinets, etc.).

Assist with ordering parts and maintaining required documents.

Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, and performing preventive maintenance.


Maintains safe work procedures by making proper use of signs, safety equipment, scaffolds, ladders, and safety barriers according to prescribed protocols.

Ensures that all personnel assigned to maintenance work-details adhere to all safety regulations and policies.

Prepares work to be processed by reviewing work requests; resolving questions; and prioritizing projects.

Maintains maintenance history file of all assigned equipment to include inspections, service and repairs, operation manuals, and other pertinent information.

Establishes and maintains proper inventory control of maintenance needs to include housekeeping supplies, hand and power tools, equipment spare parts, service truck, etc.

Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.

Inspects, maintains and operates assigned vehicles as per standard instructions and adheres to assigned parking plans.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional essential functions based on assigned department:

Sheriff, Jail, Facilities
Coordinates the work performed by outside contractors.

Assists in planning and provides Scope of Work for projects including blue prints, material lists and preferred methods.

Generally repairs and maintains the Jail and Sheriff's Office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), and five (5) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.

Special Requirements:

Must be able to work flexible hours and weekend rotations as applicable.

Facilities Maintenance

Ability to use a computer operating Microsoft Word and Excel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Facilities Maintenance Only

High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), and five (5) years of Commercial Plumbing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must be able to work flexible hours and weekend rotations as applicable.

Facilities Maintenance Only

CPR and First Aid.

Plumbing certification.

Special Requirements:

Facilities Maintenance

Ability to use a computer operating Microsoft Word and Excel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other parts of body to grasp, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical requirements are for Heavy Work.
