Job summary

The City of Zephyrhills is seeking a skilled mechanic to perform diagnostics and repairs on a range of vehicles and equipment. A High School Diploma or GED plus 3 years of journey-level experience is required, with a State of Florida CDL Class B (airbrake) and ASE Brake Certification preferred.

The role involves on-call duties and maintaining preventive maintenance records in a municipal setting with a comprehensive benefits package.

• Respond to road-service calls; participate in rotating on-call schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED. Supplemented with three (3) years of experience at a journey-level repairing and maintaining diesel/gasoline engines and mechanical equipment, including heavy-duty trucks and equipment with hydraulics.

BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES: Perform routine to complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic system diagnostics and repairs on all types of vehicles and equipment. Use specialized tools for welding and fabrication. Maintain preventative maintenance program and accurately complete reports and administrative records. Complete computerized work orders detailing service repair and maintain inventory. Respond to road-service calls; participate in rotating on-call schedule. Practice good housekeeping practices and safety regulations. Perform related duties as required.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: The selected candidate will have a background check completed, undergo drug testing and complete a physical exam before employment. Tasks completed for this position involve regular and sustained physical exertion. Tasks may require occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Possession of a current valid State of Florida Class B CDL driver’s license with airbrake endorsement required, or obtain within six (6) months of employment. Must provide customary hand tools, common to the automotive and mechanical trade. ASE Heavy Duty Brakes or Automotive Brake Certification, or obtain within one (1) year of employment.

The compensation package will start at the base salary range. The City of Zephyrhills has an excellent benefit package, which includes medical, dental, life insurance, and Florida Retirement System (FRS).
