Job summary

The City of Zephyrhills is seeking a sanitation worker to perform waste collection, operate sanitation trucks, and assist with maintenance of equipment. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Handle, carry, and empty receptacles containing solid waste.
• Operate the collection vehicle's compaction mechanism.
• Report vehicle mechanical problems to the driver.
• Drive sanitation trucks to the transfer station.
• Ride on the external platform between collection stops.
• Perform maintenance on division premises and clean vehicles.
• Identify hazardous waste products.
• Occasional weekend work, when required.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Pay Grade: Z-151 Non-Exempt / Mandatory Testing

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must have the ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions and work well with the public and co-workers.
• Applicants must be able to lift heavy objects, work on scheduled holidays, and have the ability to use a map to locate addresses.
• Must have knowledge of the safe operation and routine maintenance of equipment.
• Possess and maintain a State of Florida Class B CDL license with air brake endorsement or obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Brief Description of Duties

• Handles, carries, and empties receptacles containing solid waste.
• Sanitation workers deposit waste into a collection vehicle and operate the compaction mechanism.
• Workers report vehicle mechanical problems to the driver, drive sanitation trucks to the transfer station, and ride on the external platform between collection stops.
• Performs maintenance work on the division premises, cleans sanitation vehicles, and identifies hazardous waste products.
• Occasional weekend work, when required.
• Completes other related duties as assigned.

Employment Requirements

• The selected candidate will have a background check completed, undergo drug testing, and complete a physical exam before employment.
• Tasks completed for this position involve regular and sustained physical exertion.
• Possession of a current valid Florida driver license is also required before employment.
