Mercyhealth Freeport Hospital in Freeport, IL is seeking a Senior Maintenance Mechanic. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing hospital buildings, equipment, and utility systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and related systems.

You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to repair needs, document work, and communicate with staff. Requirements include a high school diploma and 5–7 years in mechanical/electrical trades, preferably in healthcare.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five to seven years' experience in mechanical or electrical trades, preferably in healthcare.
• Healthcare Mechanic Certification (M.E.C.H.) preferred.
• NIULPE Power Engineer certification or approved equivalent preferred.
• EPA refrigerant handling certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to maintenance needs promptly to minimize patient risk and service interruption.
• Perform preventive maintenance and on-demand work orders on equipment and buildings.
• Monitor building utility systems ( plumbing, electrical, HVAC, life safety, energy management).
• Maintain documentation of tasks performed using CMMS; communicate with staff and leadership.
• Possess understanding of cooling tower and chiller operation; assist with related tasks as assigned.
• Possibly install televisions and service hospital equipment; basic carpentry, painting, plumbing tasks as needed.

## Senior Maintenance MechanicApply: Mercyhealth Freeport Hospital - Freeport, IL: Full time: Posted Yesterday: 2026-02440**OVERVIEW** Maintains and repairs hospital buildings, equipment, and utility systems to keep the facility safe and running properly. Performs preventive maintenance, responds to repair needs, documents work, and communicates with staff while handling tasks such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and equipment repairs. **SCHEDULE:** 40-hours per week **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*** Provides a timely and effective response to unanticipated facility needs, minimizing risks to patient and team members, to maintain safety and avoid interruption of service.* Performs and manages assigned tasks including preventive maintenance and on-demand work orders, on equipment and buildings, within the established time frames while meeting departmental expectations for quality of work.* Monitors all areas of the building for maintenance issues including, but not limited to the building envelope (exterior siding system, windows, doors) etc.; recognizing problems and reporting to appropriate facilities staff grounds related issues or concerns, i.e. sidewalk issues, asphalt paving problems etc.* Monitors, maintains and troubleshoots problems with the utility system within the building to ensure the proper and optimum operation including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, life safety and energy management systems. This includes being responsible for systems such as boiler plant, chiller plant, ventilation system, fire protection systems, refrigerator equipment and other hospital systems as may be assigned.* Completes mandatory detail documentation of tasks performed including time spent performing tasks.* Effectively communicates with customers, peers, and leadership. Knowledge in the use of a computer and related organizational programs, CMMS and BAS is required.
