Senior Maintenance Manager – Steel Terminal

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Terminal Manager, this role leads all maintenance and reliability operations across the steel terminal. The focus is on ensuring that gantry cranes, barge haul systems, and rolling stock remain operational, safe, and efficient. The Senior Maintenance Manager also handles procurement, planning, and repairs associated with mobile equipment and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs for terminal equipment
  • Maintain adequate inventory of tools, parts, and supplies to support uninterrupted maintenance operations
  • Track and document all maintenance activity, inspections, and repair efforts using internal systems
  • Manage department budget, including forecasting, reporting, and expense control
  • Identify equipment requirements, write technical specifications, evaluate bids, and manage procurement processes
  • Provide operational updates and maintenance insights to terminal leadership
  • Investigate equipment damage reports and implement corrective measures
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards
  • Prepare and deliver reports on maintenance performance, inspections, and compliance tracking
  • Oversee budget planning related to equipment rental and maintenance, including cost recovery analysis
  • Manage warehouse operations, fuel supply, and distribution of equipment parts
  • Refine repair procedures and ensure staff are trained on updated processes
  • Supervise maintenance operations for a variety of equipment, including diesel, gasoline, and alternative-fuel powered vehicles
  • Coordinate sourcing of parts and services from outside vendors and monitor supplier performance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support terminal operations

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of skilled and entry-level maintenance personnel
  • Provide hands-on training, assign tasks, approve timesheets, and conduct performance reviews

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum of six years leading engineering or maintenance projects, with team and contract management experience

Special Requirements:

  • Proficiency in gantry crane maintenance and repair is required
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for scheduling, tracking, and performance optimization
