Job summary

IBM Technologies in Baltimore is seeking a seasoned Mainframe Performance Engineer to monitor, analyze, and optimize performance across IBM zSystems environments. You will conduct capacity planning, forecast workloads, and perform MIPS forecasting using zPCR and z/OS AIOps tools.

You will run load tests, assess production readiness, and identify bottlenecks while supporting CICS, DB2, z/OS Connect, WebSphere, and MQ. Remote collaboration with cloud and DR initiatives is expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in IBM zSystems mainframe performance engineering, capacity planning, forecasting, and systems performance analysis.
• Proficient in analyzing, monitoring, and tuning z/OS and zLinux environments.
• Experience with application load testing, workload analysis, performance benchmarking, and production readiness assessments.
• MIPS modeling, trend analysis, capacity forecasting, utilization reporting, and long-term capacity planning.
• Troubleshooting performance, throughput, response time, and workload management issues in enterprise mainframe environments.
• Experience supporting disaster recovery, data replication, and hybrid cloud initiatives on AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
• Excellent technical writing, SOPs, analytical reports, and executive recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, analyze, and optimize performance across IBM zSystems mainframe environments.
• Conduct capacity planning, workload forecasting, resource utilization analysis, and long-range capacity projections.
• Perform MIPS forecasting using IBM zPCR and z/OS AIOps toolsets.
• Run application load tests and assess production readiness based on CPU, memory, throughput, and workload metrics.
• Identify bottlenecks, performance risks, and resource constraints in application and infrastructure performance.
• Support performance engineering for CICS, DB2, z/OS Connect, WebSphere Application Server, and IBM MQ.
• Perform real-time Sysplex, LPAR, and CEC monitoring, root cause analysis, and tuning.
• Build and maintain automated SAS-based reporting for resource utilization, trending, forecasting, and performance analysis.
• Produce performance reports, trend analyses, capacity forecasts, and executive recommendations.
