Job summary

Brown Brothers Harriman is seeking an experienced Mainframe Programmer to join the Data Movement Technology team. The role focuses on maintaining mission-critical mainframe apps, with emphasis on COBOL, DB2, MQ, CICS and z/OS in a 24x7 environment.

SWIFT knowledge is a plus; you will participate in the full lifecycle from analysis through production support, with opportunities to enhance enterprise messaging and payment processing systems.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on mainframe development and support experience in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, MQ, z/OS (MVS) and ChangeMan or equivalent tooling.
• Experience installing, configuring, and supporting IBM software products.
• Experience with IBM Financial Transaction Manager (FTM) or similar platforms.
• Strong SQL and performance tuning experience within DB2.
• Experience troubleshooting complex production issues and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with system monitoring and application performance optimization.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-availability financial services environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on reliable, scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain critical mainframe applications supporting financial processing and messaging.
• Provide application support using COBOL, JCL, DB2, MQ, CICS and z/OS technologies.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, ensure system stability.
• Support, install and administer IBM Financial Transaction Manager (FTM).
• Monitor application and system performance and implement improvements.
• Collaborate with operations, infrastructure, database, network, and support teams.
• Participate in code reviews and support application enhancements and fixes.
• Create and maintain technical and operational documentation.
• Follow change management and release processes (ChangeMan).
• Participate in on-call rotation to support high availability requirements.
• Support Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery activities.
• Support SWIFT CSP requirements and platform modernization initiatives.
