Job summary

Gerber Life is seeking a senior software engineering leader specializing in COBOL and mainframe modernization to run end-to-end life insurance policy administration. You will own mainframe architecture, guide 15-20 engineers, and drive modernization from batch to real-time processing.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to adopt new technologies, maintain design standards, and deliver high-velocity software changes while ensuring regulatory compliance and data security.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of agile software engineering change management experience.
• 10+ years in a leadership setting with executive level reporting experience.
• 10 years of custom life insurance policy administration software change management and large-scale internal and public facing service engineering.
• 7 years managing a team of COBOL policy administration software engineers utilizing both waterfall and agile Scrum delivery frameworks.
• Must have the ability to simplify large-scale system change related needs to minimize total cost of ownership.

Responsibilities

• Owns 100% of life insurance policy administration mainframe-based application architecture and the blueprint for its continuous adaptation across the entire company.
• Provides technical oversight for 15-20 software engineers implementing blueprinted changes.
• Ensures software engineering team technical compliance with design patterns and overall software standards.
• Provides technical leadership and hands on development direction for all custom legacy COBOL application development for policy administration applications and feeds to various downstream systems.
• Executes a roadmap for mainframe-based life insurance policy administration software modernization transformation.
• Collaborates with all teams to evaluate and introduce new technologies for enhanced capabilities.
• Grows the ADSD agile and analytical mindset and a can-do spirit.
• Proactively aligns organizational design with changing technical landscape and participates in hiring of engineers.
• Provides hands-on direction to team members for backlog management and delivery.
• Accountable for sustaining and accelerating delivery velocity by adapting people, process and technology.
• Guides teams in data engineering discovery and data modeling.
• Responsible for assigning work and estimating new changes.
• Steers teams across the company using people, process and technology advantages.
• Ensures compliance with data security and regulatory standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
