Job summary

AlpHa Measurement Solutions in Houston, TX seeks a Senior Machinist / Programmer to program, set up and operate CNC machines, including Mazak multi-spindle, Omni gang tool machines and Haas mills. You will also mentor junior machinists and contribute to 5S and continuous improvement projects.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints/CAD-CAM, developing setup sheets, adjusting programs for issues, and ensuring parts meet exact specifications with precision inspection.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Post-secondary certificates for CNC training after high school.
• Previous production machining experience.
• Programming in Mazatrol and G-code; CAD/CAM software knowledge.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

The Senior Machinist / Programmer can perform all tasks involved in the production of the company’s machined sub-assemblies and/or machined final products. This includes the programming and operation of CNC machines to include Mazak multi-spindle, Omni gang tool machines and Haas mills used in the manufacturing of parts from various grades of metal and plastic. This person will assist others, across all machines, to run the programs they create. Additionally, QC inspection of finished parts is expected.

Our global headquarters is conveniently located in Houston at the southwest intersection of I-69 and Sam Houston Tollway, just north of Sugar Land.

This individual will report directly to the Machine Shop Manager.

Classification?: hourly, full-time, Monday through Friday per our staggered shift schedule (shifts start at 6am, 7am and 8am). Overtime (incl. Saturdays) as required to meet business needs.

Essential Functions

1. Ensure a safe work environment, environmental compliance (proper storage, documentation, and disposal of chemicals), and implement best practices in production processes (following SOPs, wearing PPE, etc.).
2. Program, set up and operate computer-controlled machines. Build set-up sheets to more efficiently run the programs in the future.
3. Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, or numerical control sequences. Leverage CAD/CAM as appropriate.
4. Transfer commands from computers to CNC machine modules using a computer network, jump drives, or via other media.
5. Modify programs to account for problems encountered during operation and then save modified programs per our file storage conventions/structures.
6. Maintain machines and replace broken or worn machine tools.
7. Measure dimensions and finishes of completed workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
8. Set up future jobs while machines are operating current jobs.
9. Clean machines, tooling, and parts using solvents/solutions and rags.
10. Act as a mentor and coach to develop junior machinists.
11. Sponsor and support 5S events, continuous improvement projects, and efficiency improvements.
12. Perform other duties as required and assigned; duties and activities may change over time.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred

Post-secondary certificates, awarded for technical CNC training completed after high school

Previous production machining experience:

Equipment selection – determining the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job

Quality control analysis – conducting tests and inspections of products to evaluate quality and/or machine performance

Programming – writing and modifying computer programs to create or optimize CNC machine programs in both Mazatrol and G-code; use of CAD/CAM software

Must be able to routinely lift 25 pounds

Must be able to work in a dynamic environment

Strong problem solving and critical thinking capabilities.

Must be conversant in English for safe and effective performance of the job
