Job summary

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is seeking a Machinist II to maintain the fleet of steam and diesel locomotives and support the passenger fleet and on-track equipment. Mentoring and oversight of junior machinists will be part of the role, with setup work and precision machining required.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, experienced, able to work independently or in a team, and capable of training others. A journeyman level of machining knowledge and tooling is expected.

Qualifications

• 5 years' machining experience or similar work in a shop.
• Experience with steam and diesel locomotives preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass pre-employment checks.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture and repair parts for locomotives and rolling stock.
• Inspect components and assess machining needs.
• Estimate labor for machining projects or contracts.
• Interpret blueprints and instructions for lay-out and setup.
• Use machinist tools and precision instruments to verify accuracy.
• Maintain shop tooling, machines and cleanliness.
