Job summary

Nordson Corporation is seeking a skilled CNC machinist to set up and operate complex equipment, read blueprints with GD&T, and ensure quality production in a team environment. You will interpret drawings, edit programs, and train new hires while maintaining strict safety and cleanliness standards.

Candidates should have an associate degree or certificate in machining, with 5+ years of experience preferred; apprenticeship may be required.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in machine shop technology or related trade preferred.
  • Associate degree in technology/machinist preferred; required beyond post-secondary education.
  • Apprenticeship may be required depending on the role.
  • Strong analytical, communication and computer skills.
  • Strong understanding of mathematics for dimensional analysis.
  • Team player with ability to work independently and show attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established work instructions and procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, and complex CNC programs for defined runs with limited supervision.
  • Read and edit CNC programs; interpret blueprints and GD&T information.
  • Operate multiple machines (Swiss, twin spindle lathes, multi-axis VMCs) and pallet changers.
  • Maintain machinery and inspect parts; keep inventory records of replacement parts.
  • Communicate status and updates to other departments; monitor production flow.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines; keep a clean, organized work area.
  • Lead cross-training and training of new associates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Ability to set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets and complex CNC program editing computerized equipment for defined runs with limited supervision or assistance.
  • Strong knowledge or reading code and editing programs.
  • Ability to run and set up multiple types of equipment such as Swiss tool machines and twin spindle lathes and multi axis VMC’s.
  • Ability to run and set up pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Responsible for routine machinery maintenance and running visual tests on broken or worn parts while keeping inventory records of machine replacement parts.
  • Understands flow of production and how their production affects plant metrics and customers.
  • Ability to detect malfunctions in equipment and non-spec parts and provide corrections.
  • Fluent and well versed in blueprint interpretation and title block GD&T.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as calipers, gauges, indicators, micrometers, and other hand tools related to the occupation.
  • Ability to communicate to other departments status and updates of the machining group.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Leads all cross training and new hire training activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Follow established assembly procedures to ensure quality production.

Certificate in machine shop technology or technology/machinist - preferred associate degree 5+ years of experience in a machining environment beyond post-secondary or trade school education required A recognized apprenticeship may be required.
