Job summary

McCarl's seeks a Senior Manufacturing Operations Leader to direct the machine shop, oversee CNC and manual work, and manage production planning and costing from quotation through invoicing.

You will lead a team of machinists, programmers, and maintenance staff, develop capital plans, and drive continuous improvement across safety, quality, and efficiency. A strong background in GD&T and ERP/MES is essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in manufacturing or machine shop
• 5+ years of leadership experience in machining/fabrication/manufacturing
• Ability to read blueprints and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
• Experience with CNC machining, estimating, procurement, maintenance, job costing, and production scheduling
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing business systems
• Ability to travel to operating/customer sites as required

Responsibilities

• Direct daily machine shop operations including CNC/manual machining, fabrication, assembly, and secondary processing
• Develop and manage production schedules aligned with delivery commitments
• Monitor capacity, labor/machine utilization, throughput, quality, delivery, and cost performance
• Establish manufacturing standards, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensure safety policy compliance and regulatory requirements
• Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
• Develop cost estimates for labor, materials, tooling, and equipment; prepare quotations
• Analyze historical data to improve estimate accuracy and profitability
• Develop sourcing strategies for materials, tooling, and subcontract services
• Manage supplier relationships, purchase orders, inventory, and min/max levels
• Ensure material availability to support schedules and evaluate alternate suppliers
• Develop preventive maintenance programs and equipment records
• Plan annual capital expenditures and justify investments
• Oversee installation/commissioning of new equipment
• Ensure timely project invoicing and assist with month-end closeout
• Develop job-cost reports and monitor margins, efficiency, and utilization
• Prepare monthly operational/financial performance reports; support budgeting/forecasting
• Monitor KPIs: gross margin, on-time delivery, labor/machine utilization, inventory turns, quote win rate, safety
• Lead and mentor machinists, programmers, maintenance staff, and support teams
• Conduct performance reviews and development planning; support recruiting and training
• Foster accountability, teamwork, safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Communicate McCarl's core values and maintain effective cross-level communications
• Perform other duties as assigned
