Machine Learning Engineer

The Machine Learning team is responsible for building ML models, leveraging Generative AI, and developing infrastructure and platform components to scale AI/ML operations.

This role involves building and scaling Generative AI use cases, including integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) and developing reusable platform components. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, hands-on experience in deploying AI/ML systems, and a passion for applied AI/ML. They should be comfortable managing data and promoting a data-driven culture within the organization. An interest in cutting-edge open source AI/ML technologies is also desirable.

Responsibilities

1. Design and implement infrastructure for leveraging LLMs in production.
2. Optimize LLMs for response quality and performance.
3. Create workflows to process data from various sources into knowledge bases for different use cases.
4. Collaborate with platform engineering teams to ensure successful integration of AI/ML systems into production environments, meeting performance and availability standards.
5. Participate in project planning, design, development, and code reviews.
6. Communicate effectively with business stakeholders and leadership, sharing insights and educating them about our systems.
7. Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Security, and Design teams to address technical and non-technical challenges.

Basic Qualifications

1. Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, Scala, C++, or Java.
2. Experience with Generative AI platforms like AWS Bedrock or OpenAI.
3. Experience developing scalable production AI/ML systems, including RAG and embedding workflows.
4. Knowledge of LLMOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
5. Understanding of the full AI/ML lifecycle from development to deployment and monitoring.
6. Skills in prompt engineering and setting guardrails.
7. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
8. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2. Experience with training and fine-tuning models at scale, including LLM evaluation.
3. Familiarity with ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, data platforms like Airflow, and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
4. Experience with Python and libraries like LangChain and FastAPI.
5. Ability to work with ambiguity, self-motivate, prioritize, and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
6. Ability to bridge deep technical skills with business acumen to collaborate across organizational levels.

The annual base salary range for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area is $169,000—$253,000 USD. For candidates in California (excluding SF Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington, the range is $150,000—$226,000 USD. Actual salary depends on skills, experience, and location.
