Job summary

Coconino County is seeking a Senior/Long Range Planner to manage updates to land use plans and zoning regulations in rural Northern Arizona. The role administers planning regulations and presents requests before decision makers at public hearings, coordinating with the public, county departments and other jurisdictions.

This position involves collaboration with citizen groups and developers, preparing staff reports with recommendations, and representing the County on inter-agency working groups

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in planning, geography or related field.
• Three years of related planning experience.
• Ability to interpret and apply planning and zoning regulations.

Responsibilities

• Administers ordinances and plans for development review, subdivisions, rezoning, conditional use permits, and variances.
• Works with citizen groups and individuals on planning related issues.
• Meets with developers and property owners.
• Conducts site plan review to ensure compliance with ordinance requirements.
• Presents cases to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment.
• May serve as liaison to appointed boards and committees.
• Manages development and implementation of county plans and amendments to land use regulations.
• Represents the County on inter-agency working groups and with outside agencies.
• Prepares and maintains records and reports.
• Processes requests for rezoning, use permits, and variances, including staff reports with recommendations.
• Approves routine applications for temporary use permits, administrative adjustments, signs, and minor land divisions.
